Known as the enfant terrible of South African dance, Robyn Orlin invites us to a post-pandemic reinterpretation of her iconic 1994 solo, now entrusted to the dazzling Nadia Beugré.
On a corner of a street, a life is hurled into disarray and the sky surrenders... In the early 1990’s, Robyn Orlin dedicated a heartrending performance to New York’s homeless, whose plight had deeply touched her. Designed around a simple cardboard box, this act of aesthetic protest would hold a special place in Orlin's heart, only to resurface during the 2020 lockdown as a metaphor for the abrupt awakening of our survival instinct.
Today, this pivotal solo is being revived by a performer of equal luminescence and virtuosity: Nadia Beugré. Embodying the defiant spirit and energy that characterized the young Robyn Orlin, the Ivorian dancer and choreographer, winner of the 2023 SACD Prize for dance, infuses the piece with her passion and her commitment, thereby endowing it with a new symbolic resonance.
