Starting at the end of August, the picturesque villages of the region wake from their slumber and come alive with vineyard and wine festivals, where events such as the crowning of the Wine Queen, traditional processions, marching bands, and firework displays rival each other in their creativity.
Thanks to the rich land which is 225 million years old and waves of migration, notably Celtic and Roman, the Moselle region has been able to carry on its gastronomic traditions by harmoniously blending the products of its vineyards and their popular grape varieties (Riesling, Auxerrois, and pinots), its orchards (cherries, mirabelles, quetsches, apples, pears), and its waterways (trout, pike, zander).

As a tourist destination in the heart of the continent, the Moselle is an essential stop on the road to Via mosel' within the Greater Region. It also shares a history with its neighbours, the German regions of Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate and the French region Lorraine.
It only seems natural that the border village Schengen lent its name to the agreements that got rid of internal borders.
It’s also no coincidence that to this day, Schengen still symbolises the free movement of people and goods in Europe.
