Le siège de 1684 - Vauban à Luxembourg
The techniques of a siege are explained using the example of the Luxembourg takeover
From 1681, Louis XIV's troops blockaded the fortress of Luxembourg. At Christmas 1683, the town was bombarded for several days. It was not until the end of April 1684 that Marshal Créqui's siege began. After six weeks of intense fighting, the Spanish garrison had to capitulate.
Vauban learned the lessons of this siege and reinforced the fortress on the surrounding plateaux.
