Josée Hansen and Wolfgang Ullrich talk about the photo project "New Life of a Woman" by Hsia-Fei Chang, which is not only made for the exhibition space but was originally created in social media. How much does it therefore owe to practices that are common there, but also makes them its own subject? Indeed, Chang operates with image types such as the selfie, engages in various forms of photographic self-dramatisation, questions what it means to assume a role or to be imposed upon. Her pictures deserve close examination, as they can teach us a lot about current pictorial practices between fake and fiction.
