14th Central and Eastern European Film Festival
7-24 October 2021
The 14th edition of CinEast
, the Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg, presents a wide selection of some of the best recent films produced in more than 20 countries of the former Eastern Bloc. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, CinEast will again take the form of a “hybrid festival”
that will combine regular screenings in cinemas with screenings available online.
Between 7 and 24 October
, more than 55 feature films and 35 short films
of all genres will be screened in Luxembourg at the Cinémathèque, Neimënster, Ciné Utopia, Kinepolis Kirchberg, Ancien Cinema (Vianden), Ciné Starlight (Dudelange) and other venues in and around the city. In addition to physical screenings fully compliant with the safety protocols, the CinEast audience will for the second time be offered online content to complement the screenings in cinemas. This will compensate for the reduced capacities of physical venues and offer the possibility, especially to vulnerable groups, to watch a selection of films at home.
The festival programme features the extensive photo exhibition Dreams of Escape
(Neimënster), which invites visitors to discover a selection of photographic projects underpining the festival reflection on various forms of our needs of getaway, our hopes for a change and our dreams for the future. Various accompanying events
will enrich the festival programme, including the Opening concert with the energetic Slovenian band Vasko & The Uncles From The Dark (8
/10, Melusina), combining music and food; the Polish jazz ensemble Kuba Wi?cek Trio
performing a jazz ciné-concert in the framework of the “Pause” programme (17/10, Neimënster), and the Closing concert in Balkan style with the group Flying Orkestar (22/10, Melusina).
The Festival also hopes to be able to welcome around 20 special guests
, through a combination of in-person and online attendances this year. They will meet audiences during Q&A sessions after selected screenings and take part in several ciné-debates.
