Surrounded by lush green plains and ideally located in a captivating setting on the Sûre River, the charming town of Diekirch has quite a few surprises in store for its visitors. Apart from the picturesque scenery where plenty of outdoor activities are available, Diekirch is also home to many important historic monuments and museums. The National Museum of Military History, for example, should not be missed, just like the National Museum of Historical Vehicles, where, strangely enough, you’ll also find a Beer Museum.
It’s no wonder that many think of Diekirch as the perfect destination for a nice stroll and a good meal. The old town and its pedestrian zone are beautiful to visit on foot. Old, narrow streets will lead you to stores and small cosy shops, and also past restaurants and cafés with terraces where you can of course taste the local Diekirch beer.
On Tuesdays, the local market brings a special atmosphere to the city centre, while various types of entertainment and concerts take place all year round on the central square. Don’t be surprised if you keep seeing donkeys, be it on the streets or in the shops: it’s the city’s mascot. So before you leave town, make sure to take some donkey memorabilia with you!
