A lot of different shopping events take place every year in Luxembourg. In order not to miss out on anything, including good bargains and great finds, here are some useful pointers.
Luxembourg City’s « Grande braderie » is held annually on “Kiermes” Monday (usually the first Monday of September). Hundreds of shops set up street stalls throughout the capital, giving you the possibility to go bargain hunting in a festive atmosphere, all while nibbling on a tasty treat or two. It is one of the biggest street markets of this kind in Europe, welcoming more than 200,000 visitors each year.
Good deals and special promotions can of course also be found during the sales, which take place twice a year, winter and summer, starting the end of December and the end of June respectively.
All year round, weekly and monthly markets with fresh produce and local specialties take place in many of Luxembourg’s cities and towns, not forgetting the numerous other street markets, jumble and car boot sales, flea markets and regional fairs that frequently occur all over the country and are excellent excuses to meet the locals and do a little sightseeing at the same time.
As for the festive season, it is always a very special time in Luxembourg. The shopping centres sparkle delightfully and bustle with joy while elsewhere cosy Christmas markets open, spreading magic, music and enticing spicy scents. In the capital, people gather around the many small wooden huts selling candles, decorations, toys and sweets to shop but also to enjoy a mug of mulled wine. Similar Christmas landscapes can be found in Esch-sur-Alzette, Differdange, Remich, Vianden and Dudelange.
