Theatre, concerts and cinema
With all sorts of place to go and see a show, Luxembourg’s cultural offering is a big draw.
Theaters, cinemas and concert halls in Luxembourg
Lots of people come to Luxembourg to sample the country’s cultural offering, which is extremely varied, thanks to its numerous theatres, concert venues and cinemas.
Perhaps the most famous venue, the Rockhal, is set amidst the derelict industrial buildings of Belval, where it puts on concerts by masses of internationally known artists every year, often to a full house. Kulturfabrik, in Esch-sur-Alzette, is a former abattoir, now hosting artists in residence, and artistic creations that span both cultures and borders. Of course, you can’t forget about the Philharmonie, one of Luxembourg City’s iconic buildings, whose perfect design draws the eye, while its celebrated acoustics pull in music lovers.
From north to south, the country promotes the arts, encouraging creativity by local talents and raising their profiles, while also attracting the latest big names. The buildings dedicated to theatre and dance performances are often impressive and worth a visit in their own right, which adds a certain something to the shows themselves. Every season, they put on shows for all age groups: performances of pieces from Luxembourg and abroad, ballets, operas and musicals.
Lastly, if cinema is your thing, you’ll definitely find something for you in Luxembourg. If you want to catch a film, your biggest problem will be choosing: from intimate little theatres screening arthouse flicks, to giant 4D screens showing subtitled international blockbusters in their original languages, Luxembourg has no shortage of cinemas. There’s also something unique about the country’s own film sector – why not take a closer look at the Grand Duchy’s rather brilliant homegrown films...?
