In the heart of the ‘Guttland’ or ‘good country’ extending to the gates of the capital city, lies the charming village of Hollenfels. Its landmark is a fortress from the 14th century with a 40-metre-high keep – a very unique monument indeed for this region of the country. The youth hostel Hollenfels is located directly opposite this mystical fortress and is thus the perfect starting point for a discovery hike through the valley of the seven castles. Next to the castles, fortresses, keeps, moats and ruins, the nature lovers will also discover the charming valley of the Eisch, with its lush meadows and its green forests. Mountain bike fans will definitely get their money’s worth in this region. Numerous well signposted trails with adventurous ascents and descents as well as single trails are leading through beautiful landscapes with stunning points of view. We recommend the 28-km-long tour ‘Mamerlayen’ with its narrow single trails leading through the forests around the majestic castle of Hollenfels next to impressive ruins and beautiful views. In the evening, the in-house restaurant ‘Melting Pot’ awaits you with its regional specialties. The youth hostel was awarded the label ‘Bed+Bike’.
