« Emparejados » - David Lagos & Melchora Ortega

Much more than a recital of flamenco songs, Emparejados is the sum of the fantastic voices of David Lagos and Melchora Ortega. But it is also the staging of a shared cante, and the expression of two complementary artistic performances.
The guitar playing of Alfredo Lagos ‒ “Giraldillo del Toque” soloist at the Seville Biennale and a veteran in accompanying the major names in flamenco ‒ is classical in style, but also transgressive when the cante requires it. For this concert, David Lagos and Melchora Ortega will also delight in the presence of Juan M. Jiménez, a saxophonist who regularly accompanies the stars of flamenco such as Israel Galván or Rocío Márquez, and a contemporary musician without equal whose versatility adapts to every genre.
This ensemble of talents will offer aficionados of FlamencoFestival Esch a journey in flamenco offering plenty of variety: from the bulería al golpe to the malagueñas of Don Antonio Chacón or verses drawn straight from Jerez and from every corner of Andalusia. This concert will also be an opportunity to hear the impassioned chansons of David Lagos taken from his albums Hodierno and Cantes del silencio. Two works which prove, if needed, that flamenco is a contemporary art form that is very much alive, allowing artists ‒ to paraphrase the great Enrique Morente ‒ “to translate the tradition into a language of today, to express today’s concerns”.
