Lecture with Krista Pikkat: Towards the recovery of the culture sector of Ukraine

Krista Pikkat, UNESCO’s Director for Culture and Emergencies, will talk on the subject of the protection of cultural heritage in conflict zones, with special emphasis on the situation in Ukraine following the Russian invasion of February, 2022. Up to now, UNESCO has assessed 274 damaged or destroyed cultural sites in the country.

In her lecture she will share insights into UNESCO's latest initiatives and partnerships with other countries to address the challenges cultural heritage faces during times of conflict. The conference is also aimed at raising awareness of the importance of verifying the provenance of art objects to prevent trading of illegally acquired cultural artifacts.

Overall, this event aims to encourage international collaboration in protecting cultural heritage and ensuring its preservation for future generations.
