FR Entouré du scénographe Éric Ruf et du costumier Christian Lacroix, avec qui il a monté Triomphe de l’amour, montré en 2019 au Grand Théâtre, Denis Podalydès revient au Luxembourg avec l’opéra Falstaff de Giuseppe Verdi. Composé en 1893, Falstaff est le dernier opéra de Verdi. Une dernière comédie où il s’attache à la figure grotesque de Falstaff, qu’il emprunte à Shakespeare. C’est cet homme attachant, à la fois malfrat, fauteur de troubles, mais capable des affections les plus franches, que Denis Podalydès veut faire apparaître dans toutes ses contradictions. Une production fastueuse, qui mêle de façon ingénieuse théâtre et opéra. Antonello Allemandi dirige l’Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg et le Chœur de l’Opéra de Lille.
DE Denis Podalydès, Mitglied der Comédie-Française, inszeniert die Shakespeare-Adaptation Falstaff, die er bewusst zwischen Oper und Theater ansiedelt. Falstaff ist ein Trunkenbold und Gauner, ein Frauenheld und Unruhestifter, ein nimmersatter Fresssack, der aber auch zu offenherziger Zuneigung und bitterem Kummer fähig ist. Der Regisseur möchte diese fesselnde, ebenso närrische wie melancholische Gestalt, in der er auch Züge des Komponisten sieht, zum Leben erwecken. Podalydès, der am Grand Théâtre zuletzt Marivaux’ Le Triomphe de l’amour inszeniert hat, ist an den Théâtres de la Ville kein Unbekannter. Das Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg und der Chor der Opéra de Lille stehen diesmal unter der musikalischen Leitung von Antonello Allemandi.
EN The Théâtres de la Ville continue their survey of the vast body of work of one of the greatest composers with a visit from the rambunctious Sir John Falstaff. Dedicated to Shakespeare’s great comic creation of the round-bellied knight, Falstaff is Verdi’s opera in three acts adapted from the bard’s play, The Merry Wives of Windsor. Plotting to wheedle his way into the affections and wealth of two married women, Falstaff makes the mistake of sending them identical love letters. With the help of their friend Mistress Quickly, another favourite Shakespearean character, the wives counter with their own plan to outwit him. Stage direction is by Denis Podalydès. In the pit is the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg which, along with the Chœur de l’Opéra de Lille, is led by internationally renowned conductor Antonello Allemandi.
