FR Le chorégraphe Angelin Preljocaj renoue avec Le lac des cygnes avec son goût pour le ballet narratif et les grandes histoires, comme en témoignait déjà Retour à Berratham, montré au Grand Théâtre en 2015. Mêlant le chef-d’œuvre musical de Tchaïkovski à de nouveaux arrangements, Angelin Preljocaj s’attaque à une réécriture contemporaine
de ce monument du répertoire classique. L’histoire de la princesse-cygne est transposée au cœur des problématiques de notre temps. Au bord d’un lac, Rothbart veut exploiter un gisement d’énergie fossile. Une jeune fille, Odette, semble contrarier ses plans, il va la transformer en cygne. Ailleurs, lors d’une soirée, Siegfried va s’opposer à son père qui veut s’associer à Rothbart pour construire une usine au bord du lac des cygnes. Un spectacle qui démontre toute la virtuosité des 26 danseurs et danseuses du Ballet Preljocaj.
EN The season comes to a close with Angelin Preljocaj’s Le lac des cygnes, the French choreographer’s 2020 reworking of the classical ballet. Retaining most of Tchaikovsky’s score, Preljocaj has reset the Swan Lake fairytale in modern day, relocated to a hard, shiny world where a property developer is encroaching on the natural habitat of the swans. Against designer Boris Labbé’s dystopian video backdrop, the darkness of a high society dressed in dinner jackets and black dresses contrasts with the expanded scenes of fluttering white swans. Preljocaj has reimagined much of Petipa’s and Ivanov’s choreography, stamping the production for 26 dancers with the contemporary style he has honed over some 50 creations for his own Aix-en-Provence based Ballet Preljocaj.
DE Zum Abschluss der Spielzeit zeigt das Grand Théâtre den Ballettklassiker schlechthin: Schwanensee – mit einem Twist. Angelin Preljocaj ist von der klassischen Tradition stark beeinflusst, aber dennoch ein absolut zeitgenössischer Choreograf. Sein Schwanensee, den er selbst als „Everest“ des Tanzes bezeichnet, bildet hier keine Ausnahme. Preljocaj mischt Tschaikowskys musikalisches Meisterwerk mit aktuellen Arrangements und überschreibt Marius Petipas und Lew Iwanows Standard-Choreografie von 1895 mit modernen Elementen. Getreu dem Originalwerk platziert er die Geschichte der Schwanen- prinzessin im Zentrum der Probleme unserer Zeit. So entsteht ein Werk, das zugleich eine Hommage an einen Klassiker darstellt sowie völlig neue Sichtweisen auf diesen bietet.
