Canoeing is an activity that can be enjoyed by everyone, be it in the form of a leisurely excursion along the Mosel or a trip down the Sauer with its gentle rapids. Miselerland has something to offer for everyone whatever their age!

The landing places

Thanks to the landing places along the Mosel and the Sauer you can choose in which viticulture village you like to stop.

You can discover the natural preserved lateral valleys by foot with the whole family, visit interesting museums or simply enjoy the fun of paddling and let yourself be gently rocked by the waves generated from passing ships.

Schengen-Schwebsange

1st stage: Schengen to Schwebsange | 4 km | 1 hour | starting point at MKM 241,75

A slipway with a passenger ramp can be found just 200 m from the European centre and museum and marks the upper starting point of the section of the Moselle between Germany and Luxembourg. Lovely nature trails start from this point, as well as the quality labled trail "Schengen without borders". You can rent bicycles from the European centre and reach the nearby natural conservation area "Haff Réimech" with its nature trail and swimming lake, as well as the youth hostel in Remerschen.

The marina for leisure boats is located right beside the landing place of the "Luxemburg International Rowing Club" and offers a restaurant, shop, a campsite and a bicycle renting centre. Easily accessible by bicycle are the "Haff Réimech" natural conservation area with its nature trail and swimming lake, as well as the youth hostel in Remerschen, the Mediterranean garden in Schwebsange and the "A Possen" folklore, wine-growing and toy museum in Bech-Kleinmacher.

The small harbour right beside the Moselle bridge and within reach of the quay for passenger ships provides an ideal protected landing place for canoes. Thematic trails start from the bridge. An open-air swimming pool, minigolf, miniature go-cart track, bus station with bicycle hire, large market square and long esplanade with sun-kissed terraces invite you to while away the hours. A wide range of shops, accommodation and restaurants are available in the vicinity.

The leisure boating facilities can be found between the locks for commercial vessels and the weir system. They consist of pleasure boat locks, canoe slides and portage ramps for canoes. Access is only allowed between 1 April and 31 October subject to strict compliance with the local signs and instructions. Furthermore, access will only be granted if the sign with a white direction arrow on a blue background is displayed on the pier head with the additional wording “Bootsschleuse”. Navigation ships entering and exiting the locks must not be hindered.

Ehnen MKM 223,85

This is the longest beach of the Moselle in Luxembourg and offers a whole range of sporting activities for the whole family. Call in at the local club if you want to try your hand at waterskiing or wakeboarding. Directly opposite you will find the wine museum in the idyllic historic wine village of Ehnen with the only round church in Luxembourg in its centre. A historical tour is marked out through Ehnen with car parks, bus stops and bicycle hire in the vicinity.

A fish spawning zone in the form of a small inlet can be found on the Luxembourg side. This area cannot be accessed by canoe.

Landing place for the german Moselle river excursion route and start of the Nittel-Wellen-Machtum cross-border geologic didactical trail. Guest houses and bakeries in the village. Mosel cycle route. Train station.

The landing place is located on the quay beside the open-air swimming pool. There is a campsite close by with a bicycle hire centre and car park. It is only a 200 m walk to the bus station, the Kulturhuef with its printing museum, the butterfly garden and the town centre with pedestrian area and a wide range of shops, terraces and wine cellars.

Landing place for the german Moselle river excursion route. Train station. Guest houses in the village. Mosel cycle route. Beer garden on the Mosel terrace next to the landing place. Bicycle shop and hire centre 300 m away.

Mertert harbour MKM 208,45

The harbour facilities and basin cannot be accessed by canoe for safety reasons.

Oberbillig (D) MKM 205,90

Landing place for the german Moselle river excursion route. Open-air bar on the Mosel terrace beside the jetty. The only car ferry between Germany and Luxembourg. Train station. Mosel cycle route.

Wasserbillig-Born

6th stage: Wasserbillig to Born | 9 km | 2 hours | starting point at SKM 0,30

Wasserbillig SKM 0,30

The landing place is located up the banks of the Sauer 300 m upstream from the mouth of the river right beside the campsite. All the starting points of the canoe route along the Mosel and the Sauer can be reached thanks to the bicycle hire centre. The aquarium, which is only 200 m from the landing place, is well worth a visit. The "Spatz" at the mouth of the Sauer, is the lowest point in Luxembourg.

Born SKM 9,10

The landing place in the small village of Born is located in the campsite where steps up the river bank provide access to the Sauer. You can stop here for a bite to eat during the campsite opening times. Parking is only available by agreement with the site manager. Bus stop 400 m away. Cycle route and bicycle hire on the campsite.
