Outdoor Activities for Families in Luxembourg

Nature is one of Luxembourg’s greatest benefits, which means plenty of outdoor activities for young and old. May it be playgrounds, walking trails, biking tracks, adventure parks, open air swimming pools or water activities.

Make the best out of your trip with these few fun outdoor activity ideas in Luxembourg:

  1. Families with teens can fully enjoy the natural beauties along the numerous hiking trails that the country has to offer. For younger children there are of course shorter alternatives, such as the Barefoot Path in Medernach or the sonorous trail “Klangwee” in Hoscheid just to name a few. For an extra amount of fun, you can combine it with Geocaching or Pokemon hunting.
  2. Bike tours are another fantastic way to see the country combined with a physical activity. It is faster than on foot and you will be able to see parts of the country that you wouldn’t see by car. Don’t worry for small children as you can rent bikes with a kids seat or with a bike trailer for your loved ones.

  3. Prepare your picnic and enjoy your day at the hilarious playgrounds and parks in Luxembourg. Luxembourg City has some gems  to offer to the little ones. The most exquisite and favorite ones in Luxembourg City are the Pirate Ship in the municipal park at avenue Monterey, the Castle Park at rue Charlemagne, the Merl Park with trampolines, sandpits, climbing frames, slides and a zip line between Avenue du X September and Boulevard Pierre Dupong, the Farm Park in Gasperich at the rue Jean-Gaspard and the Airport Park in Cents, Op der Heed. Besides these famous parks, there are also some secrets out there, only known by the locals. Don’t hesitate to ask them for their secret spots.

  4. Water activities are a good way to cool off when the temperatures are rising too much. May it be at the outdoor swimming pools or at lakes such as the Upper-Sûre lake, the lake in Weiswampach or the lakes in Remerschen. Besides swimming, kayak tours, fishing and diving are additional possibilities that can be done at the nature park Upper-Sûre. The solar-powered boat, leaving on a 2-hour tour in Insenborn, allows you to observe the local fauna and provides you an overview on the lake’s history and Luxembourg's largest drinking-water reservoir.

  5. Usually kids love animals and zoos. For a day full of fairy tales and joy, don’t miss the unique leisure park “Parc Merveilleux” in Bettembourg. Nearly 200 species of animals from 5 continents live in the park. The “Déierepark” in Esch-sur-Alzette is a great free alternative with around 150 animals.

  6. For adrenaline seekers, adventure parks where you can climb from tree to tree combined with ziplining are a fantastic activity. Challenge yourself and your kids on the trail of your choice and experience this thrilling and exciting sensation.
