Nelson Mandela – From Prisoner to President

From April, 29 to September,28 the National Museum of Resistance in Esch / Alzette will host the international exhibition "Nelson Mandela, From Prisoner to President", which was elaborated by the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg.

The exhibition

The 27 long years that Nelson Mandela was forced to spend in prison are partly why he is known all over the world.
Beyond any doubt he was the most famous person who illustrated the fight against the Apartheid.
He is a historic symbol of peaceful resistance for racial equality and human rights and was South Africa’s first black president (1994‐1999) and at the same time democratically elected. Even today Nelson Mandela was one of the most respected personalities in the world. He died on the 5th of December 2013.
The exhibition functions as a retrospective look on Mandela’s life, the exceptional journey of a man full of hope and belief. It engages with the visitor’s perception and conscience, but at the same time it also gives the opportunity to discover the universal values of tolerance and equality. The exhibition also enables to discover a jurist synonymous with the principles of justice and equality. It promotes enthusiasm for the good cause, and encourages the masses to do the same. Mandela is considered as a ray of hope for generations of people.
The exhibition focuses on 6 different themes, which illustrate Nelson Mandela’s life, its difficult moments and his personal commitment for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Price in 1993.

Celebrate Luxembourg City's birthday this weekend

This weekend the rocky walls of Abbaye de Neumünster will come to life in a light show combined with live and electronic music to celebrate Luxembourg City's 1050th anniversary.

As a part of the "Theaterfest", the City of Luxembourg will be celebrating its birthday this weekend with special light show “MurMur(e)s, the eloquence of stones”.

The year 2013 marks 1,050 years since Siegfried, a count in the  Moselgau and the Ardennes, traded Feulen for the “Bockfiels”, the cliffs overlooking the Alzette river running through the Grund and Clausen.
On this rocky foundation Count Siegfried built his castle “Lucilinburhuc”, which later became Luxembourg City, thus becoming Siegfried of Luxembourg.

The birthday show, which explores the history of Luxembourg in artistic fashion, will be held in English on Friday, September 20, and in French on Saturday and Sunday. Entrance is free, but seating is limited.
